For many, being part of a community brings comfort and a sense of belonging, but also a desire to support those who are supporting you. To Catharine Collins, a life-long resident of the City of Guelph, being a part of this community means all that and more.

Catharine Collins, a talented painter, gives back to her community in so many ways

From a young age, Catharine understood the importance of good healthcare and of having local access to that care. “I have always treasured the caring atmosphere and outstanding service provided by St. Joseph’s Health Centre,” recalled Catharine. “My siblings and I got off to a good start in life by being born in the hospital on Westmount Road. Our mother spoke of the wonderful nurses who attended to her as she brought all four of us into the world.”

An educator by training, Catharine devoted her life to developing young minds while at the same time enhancing her community by volunteering with a wide range of programs and services across the city. Throughout it all, the Health Centre was an important part of Catharine’s life.

“Over my lifetime, I witnessed the wide range of services available at St. Joseph’s and the skill with which they were carried out,” she said. “It is clear to me that those entrusted with caring for the citizens of the area hold dear the mission of their founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, to deliver compassionate, expert care to all those in need.”

That is why Catharine made the decision to leave a gift in her Will to St. Joseph’s Health Centre.

“I planned a gift to St. Joseph’s with the confidence that my donation will ensure the great work of the Health Centre continues,” shared Catharine. “I trust St. Joseph’s Foundation to make the most of my gift. I know it will help further St. Joseph’s culture of excellence in rehabilitation and long term care so the next generation of seniors, and all those needing therapy and care in their lifetime, will have the Health Centre to rely on.”

Catharine’s legacy gift is truly a commitment to giving back to the community that has, for four generations, given so much to her and her family.
