Co-operators’ New Investment Builds Resilient Healthcare
St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph is honoured to announce Co-operators has made a $100,000 donation to further build resilience in healthcare workers by equipping them with tools, training and support systems to help them cope, recover and thrive in high-pressure environments.
St. Joe’s Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth (The Centre) launched in 2023 with a founding investment from Co-operators, and is a central hub supporting the personal and professional well-being of healthcare workers. The Centre ensures access to the resources, learning opportunities and strategies needed to address the impacts of high-stress, trauma-exposed work while fostering connection, compassion and community.
Healthcare workers are continuously exposed to suffering and loss, which can take a toll mentally, physically and emotionally. These challenges have intensified due to the lingering effects of the pandemic, increasing health complexities and widespread workforce exhaustion. Meaningful support, shared learning and connection remain critical for developing individual, team and organizational resilience and delivering safe, high-quality care.
The Centre plays a key role in strengthening this resilience through focused learning, practical tools and supportive programs. Research shows that when healthcare workers have access to mental well-being resources, they collaborate more effectively and deliver improved care.
“Co-operators is proud to have founded The Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth because we recognize that to continue building healthy communities, we must provide our healthcare workers with the personal well-being and mental health resources they need,” said Jessica Fisher, Associate Vice President, Citizenship at Co-operators. “This recent donation reinforces our ongoing commitment to support healthcare workers, ensuring they continue to benefit from the critical resources The Centre offers.”
This new investment from Co-operators will enable The Centre to expand its offerings to include new mental health and trauma-informed care toolkits and equip professionals with practical strategies to manage stress and support one another. It will also further invest in leadership development programs focused on emotional resilience, helping leaders navigate the complexity of healthcare while sustaining their own well-being and modelling healthy, connected teams.
“The Centre plays a key role in St. Joseph’s mission to support our healthcare workers,” said Sandra Ramelli, VP, Culture, Equity and Organizational Effectiveness. “At its heart, The Centre is about caring for our people in the same thoughtful, intentional way they care for others. This remarkable investment allows us to create spaces where healthcare workers can learn and grow, creating a more resilient organization. We are so grateful to Co-operators for their wonderful generosity and for their willingness to stand behind our dedicated care teams who give so much of themselves every day.”
The Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth is a priority project in St. Joe’s $15 million Building Better Healthcare Campaign. Co-operators renewed commitment is ensuring that those who care for our community are, in turn, supported and cared for themselves, today and into the future.
