Funded entirely by donors, these new therapeutic spaces allow people to relax and heal the mind, body and spirit

Donations to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph support projects that enhance care in every corner of our Health Centre. Thanks to our generous community we are thrilled to share that patients and residents are now benefitting from two new Therapeutic Spa/Tub rooms. These newly renovated spaces offer people the chance to bathe with the utmost comfort and ease, providing the kind of security and support that allows the mind and body to relax and heal.

Anyone who has experienced sore muscles, aching joints or a stressful day knows the soothing relief and comfort a warm bath can bring. But the therapeutic benefits of bathing have been scientifically-proven to extend far beyond these basics, and have been linked to ensuring optimum health of the mind and body. Soaking in a tub of warm water can boost heart and respiratory health, reduce pain and inflammation, increase blood flow, regulate body temperature and promote restful sleep. Bathing also increases serotonin levels to induce happiness and an overall sense of well-being.

St. Joe’s new Therapeutic Spa/Tub Rooms have transformed the way people can experience the healing effects of bathing. These large, open-concept spaces were built with the highest quality, hospital-grade materials yet feature many of the same design elements of a spa.

“Every element of these modernized yet serene spaces was designed with our patients and residents in mind,” states David Wormald, President of St. Joseph’s Health Centre. “We are so grateful to our community of donors for funding all of the high-quality, accessibility-friendly equipment as well as the renovation costs.”

People facing advanced disease, disability and terminal illness can now experience customized care with increased privacy, dignity and comfort. The large, open-concept spaces support people of all mobility levels, allowing for safe, patient-centred care.

“These new therapeutic spaces are just one example of how donors improve the quality of our healthcare,” shares Sera Filice-Armenio, Foundation CEO. “Donors made this project possible. We are so grateful that their generosity enables the Health Centre to create spaces where individuals facing significant health challenges can find comfort and heal mind, body and spirit.”
