Thanks to Co-operators generous $250,000 donation and many months of research and planning, The Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth, sponsored by Co-operators, has officially launched at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph.

This multi-year project is now offering high-quality learning opportunities to support healthcare professionals to be at their best personally and professionally as they continue to face the inherent impacts of high stress and trauma exposed work.

“We have been living and working through a rapidly changing and highly uncertain environment for the last couple of years. Despite this, healthcare professionals have continued with dedication, compassion and a brave front,” shared Charmaine Madrigal, Clinical Learning and Development Coordinator. “The launch of this Centre gives me a renewed sense of value in the work I do each day and excitement that the passion that drives us to provide care will be given the opportunity to flourish once again.”

The Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth is a hub that enables individuals and teams to access online and in-person learning opportunities as well as an evolving resource library intended to bolster resilience, enhance mental well-being and foster growth. For many, The Centre brings a sense of hope that hasn’t been felt in a long time. “Anyone working in healthcare over the past 3 years has been hit incredibly hard; not just doctors and nurses, but all of our colleagues”, shares Kim Fortune, Environmental Services. “It’s been a struggle, but I’m excited to have a place we can learn strategies and develop ourselves; to be better at work – but also outside of work too!”

Co-operators have been a vital partner of St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph for many years and have provided the funding to develop and help sustain The Centre. Shawna Peddle, Co-operators Associate Vice President, Citizenship was in attendance for the official launch and shared “Co-operators is proud to support building resilience in our community by investing in the human-side of health care, because when people are at their best they are better equipped to provide the best possible care, which all of us rely on and benefit from”.

As The Centre develops it will grow to support other institutions within St. Joseph’s Health System and healthcare partners throughout the Guelph Wellington Ontario Health Team.
