An Exemplary Life, a Legacy of Care
The newly established Norma and Joe Valeriote Fund support patient and resident care
Earlier this year, Guelph lost a beloved community member and champion of many causes. Joseph (Joe) Valeriote passed away in his 98th year, leaving a remarkable legacy of community service. Now, thanks to an endowment fund Joe established through his estate plans, the values of care and compassion he shared with his late wife Norma will continue for years to come.
Norma and Joe raised six children in Guelph, all of whom were born at St. Joseph’s Hospital. They lived their lives by example, instilling the values of caring through their actions and support of community initiatives.
In particular, Joe was a passionate Rotary Club of Guelph member for 57 years and supported many community and international initiatives. He never hesitated to go above and beyond, whether it was volunteering on boards or leading fundraising campaigns, and Norma was often partner to his many ventures. In later years, Joe even got his “Smart Serve” certificate at the age of 94 so he could help out at the 2019 Canada Day beer tent!
“In many ways, Dad was our ‘North Star.’ He was a man of integrity and high principle who taught us the difference one person can make in creating a kind and equitable society. We are so proud of his decision to create this endowment fund which will carry on our parents’ values and commitment to ensuring everyone receives the healthcare services they need.”

Joe had a fulsome and long-standing relationship with St. Joseph’s Health Centre as a volunteer, supporter, and community ambassador. “Joe deeply understood the critical role donations play in ensuring St. Joe’s has the medical equipment and technologies needed to provide the best healthcare services to our community” shared Jennifer Hall, VP Development. “It was an honour to know Joe and it is our privilege to oversee the establishment of the Norma and Joe Valeriote Endowment Fund which will help care for thousands as they face significant and complex health challenges.”
Joe and Norma Valeriote lived by the belief that community and healthcare services should be available to all people, particularly those with varying degrees of hope. The Norma and Joe Valeriote Endowment Fund marks yet another milestone in their dedication to helping others by supporting quality healthcare for generations to come.
